Bacterial Products for Shrimp Tanks

There is a new hot discussion on bacteria starter products ongoing, involved with the question whether one should use them also weekly or when doing water changes. Besides, while in Germany shrimp babies are fed with crushed dust food (like spirulina), keepers in Asia now tend to use bacteria products to support the biofilm, which feed the offspring.

The opinions on the effect of bacterial additives widely differ, as most people say that only liquid, cooled stored products have effect (f.e. Aqua Medic Biobacter, Prodibio Biodigest, Super Bacter). Broadly known dried bacteria starters or/and shrimplet food are f.e. Ebi Ken KouMosura BT-9, BENIBACHI Super Bacterium Bee Max, Borneo Wild Bebi, and ebi-ten Shrimp-Bacter. The line between bacteria starters and food vanishes, and both product groups support the growth and survival rate of the shrimp offspring. However, I have heard by reputable source that weekly adding useful bacteria to the breeding tank has very good effects. If you have problems with your shrimp survival rate, you should consider bacterial additives.
