We must acknowledge that we keep our shrimp in a very artificial environment. Even a nice planted tank is not similar to the natural biotops, which are mostly small, slow creeks with basins filled up with tree leaves and rocks.
Shrimp stores offer and invent many products for the well-being of dwarf shrimp, like shrimp minerals, water parameter manipulating things, color enhancers, bacteria powders, shrimplet food and artificially breeding aids like Mosura Eros. Some of them work very well, others not – and mostly they are not cheap; that is what they have in common.
My latest purchase: alder cones, pollen, walnut leaves, chestnut leaves
I have tested a wide range of organic, natural shrimp products also, and now would not like to miss
- alder cones
- Indian almond leaves
- walnut leaves
- stinging nettle leaves
- montmorillonite
- Hokkaido pumpkin (red squash)
For all products it is very important that they are organic, and do not contain chemicals or heavy metals.
I have found two good suppliers in Germany until now: the first is Peter’s Laden (Cologne), the second is a private seller on wirbellosen-auktionshaus.de
